Holiday Calendar

NOVEMBER 22, 2013 - JANUARY5, 2014 CHILL @ THE QUEEN MARY, LONG BEACH, CA

Queen Mary's giant dome - once home to the legendary Spruce Goose - is frozen over and transformed into a giant igloo and home to The Ice Kingdom – an awe-inspiring exhibit featuring larger-than-life ice creations that tower over 2.5 stories tall and use more than two million pounds of ice. This holiday season, The Ice Kingdom allows you to be a part of The Nutcracker story, following little Clara and her Nutcracker through her adventures on one cold Christmas Eve Night as they battle the Mouse King and his army. But don’t forget to grab a parka and gloves – temperatures drop to a numbing 9-degrees in our igloo.

In addition to the enchantment of The Ice Kingdom, CHILL will also feature Ice Tubing, an outdoor Ice Skating rink, guests will enjoy the World’s Largest Snowman Bouncy and the World’s Largest Rocking Horse! And don’t miss the chance to climb into a giant Snow Globe to have the perfect family Holiday photo and enjoy live music, holiday carolers and other holiday-themed entertainment. - For more information please visit: http://www.queenmary.com/chill/#sthash.X1C5jmkU.dpuf

Unique Birthday Party Favor: Rubberband Lollipops
This is such a unique birthday party favor for young girls! What little girl doesn't love to have a lot of ponytail holders? Moms love them, too, because they're practical birthday party favors. No little plastic pieces that you'll throw away in this loot bag! Yay. Take a look :)
Items You'll Need:
Hair bands (in color of your choice)
Lollipop sticks
Styrofoam craft balls
Clear treat bags
Ribbon
Hot glue gun

Directions:

1. Push a lollipop stick into the center of your Styrofoam craft ball, about half way through the ball. Take the stick back out and use a hot glue gun (or regular craft glue if you have the time to let it dry) and drop a little glue into the hole before replacing the stick.

2. Stretch your hair bands over the styrofoam ball in a random pattern. Continue placing the bands on until you can no longer see the ball in the middle.

3. When your "lollipop" is complete, place a small clear treat bag over the top, and secure with a ribbon (or another hair band).

You can choose to use multicolor bands or make them all one color, maybe with the color theme of the birthday party .

Additional Ideas:
Place several "lollipops" into one treat bag to make a lollipop bouquet. Use a single color for each pop. In the end use a bow of choice for a perfect design.
Put a large clay pot with a large styrofoam ball in it to arrange a lollipopbouquet for the table. Let the girls choose one (or more) as they leave the party.

November 3, 2013      FALL BACK FESTIVAL, SAN DIEGO, CA

History can be fun, and the Fall Back Festival is out to prove it!
Now in its 13th year, Fall Back is an annual children’s street faire held on the first Sunday of November (the end of Daylight Savings Time – when the clocks “fall back”) giving children and families the chance to “fall back” in time and experience what life was like in the mid- to late- nineteenth century when San Diego was a bustling new town.
Admission is FREE, but there are nominal fees required for some activities, such as the carnival rides.
Between old-fashioned festivities like pony rides and ice cream- and pie-eating contests, there are historical recreations and demonstrations with a “nineteenth-century” blacksmith plying his trade, prospectors teaching children how to pan for gold, butter churning and candle dipping demonstrations, and a Wild West shoot-out, to name a few. Kids absorb history by simply observing and participating – and they love it!
Cultural offerings are the other side of Fall Back. Native American and other folkloric dancers delight audiences of all ages. Children engage in Southwest Indian sand painting, Chinese calligraphy, model railroad demonstration, and a drumming jam session, all the while being entertained my magicians, musicians, and dancers. They will be intrigued by local Native American tales told by renowned storyteller Abel Silvas. Additionally, activities at the craft booths will provide the children with keep-sakes of a fabulous day.

Kids in attendance will get: (while supplies last)
FREE Hot Dog at Dick’s Last Resort Hot Dog Stand
FREE Root Beer Floats compliments of Smart and Final
FREE Chocolate Samples courtesy of the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop and
a FREE Pony Ride compliments of Michael Dorvillier and Symbio Financial. The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation wraps food, entertainment, and family-fun around a hearty helping of history and culture that will keep you coming back every year!
